Costain selected for Urenco's Capenhurst growth programme

Costain will design, procure, build and commission works at the Capenhurst enrichment site, on contracts running for at least three years.

Urenco has selected Costain for its Capenhurst growth programme, covering design, procurement, construction and commissioning. The contracts are reported to run for a minimum of three years. No contract value was stated.

Why it matters for contractors

Capenhurst sits just across the border from Deeside, so crews working on the site often look for stays in Flintshire. The programme includes a facility aimed at producing high assay low enriched uranium, with a reported target of up to 10 tonnes a year by 2031. Government support of £196 million was announced in May 2024.

What to watch

Supply chain packages and site mobilisation announcements from Costain and Urenco, and any increase in demand for local accommodation as the programme ramps up.
