The Welsh Government's tender valued the bridge replacement at £145m, with enabling works planned for autumn 2026 and the new bridge opening in autumn 2029.
The Welsh Government's A494 River Dee Bridge page, last updated on 15 October 2025, gives these planned milestones: site enabling works in autumn 2026, main construction from spring 2027, the new bridge opening in autumn 2029 and demolition of the old bridge in spring 2030. The page also referred to a public local inquiry and a ministerial decision before these stages.
A separate tender notice published on Sell2Wales on 29 August 2025 valued the contract at £145 million excluding VAT, with an estimated contract period from 1 June 2026 to 1 March 2030. Check the Welsh Government page for the latest dates, because major schemes often shift.
Why it matters for contractors
The bridge links Queensferry and Deeside to the A55 corridor. Both Dee View Executive Stay and Mount Pool Retreat are within a short drive.
